After choosing my idea, I wanted to conduct a good bit of desk research to find out as much as I could about assembling and building furniture, and appliances as possible so that I could find out where there are gaps and problems. I am going to be looking at paper instructions, manufacturers, online forums, YouTube videos, and other intelligent-instructions applications. Now that I have found my idea, and want to look as wide as possible in this area before choosing something to narrow down on.
I started off by noting down all the different things I could think of that people would build or assemble. There are is a wide range of things that people will build, and I was surprised at how many different things in and around a house are built manually by the person who bought it. This means that most people at some point in their life have had to follow instructions to build something, and most likely they used paper instructions.

I then grouped together all of the sticky notes together. This way I put items into themes and understand that area better and try to tackle a particular group, as it was quite daunting to see the amount of different things that need assembled. It is clear to see that the main area of building and assembly is furniture, and that is what I thought it would be. I think that focusing in on furniture is a good move to make, as it allows me to understand a smaller market and see what is currently being used for building it.
