We had a small group feedback session, where we each gave a 30-second pitch of each of our ideas. This was to gather feedback from our tutors as well as our peers. I was looking forward to sharing my ideas and seeing which one received the most promising feedback. I already preferred my third idea, so I was hoping that it was the one that got the best reception.

Idea 1: A learning platform for people moving into adulthood

This was the first idea I shared. Honestly I knew that this idea wasn’t going to be the one as I was thinking in my head whether this is something that I would even use. I think that it would be a great project for gathering research as I could use people in my class, but other than that I don’t think it is an area that I am that interested in. The feedback I got was helpful, and it was mentioned that figuring things out is simply a part of the fun of moving out, and that people generally probably wouldn’t even wan’t to learn about something from a digital product when they can use cook-books, YouTube, or just ask their parents or friends. I think in my head I knew that this idea wasn’t going to be the one, but it was good to get clarification on it.

Idea 2: Diagnostic platform for home appliances

My second idea got a better reception from my tutors and peers. I think that this is a genuine problem but it is maybe too future thinking. The feedback I got was positive but my tutor suggested that it is very smart-home orientated and it is probably a little too unrealistic to type in a code or point a camera at something and get it to tell you what’s wrong with it. He also mentioned that homes can be highly technical and it can be hard to pin-point where the issue actually is. This is especially true for boilers, gas, and electric issues. I was happy enough with the feedback and this idea and glad I got it clarified.

Idea 3: Product assembly application

As I said this idea was the one that I was most confident in, as it was a pivot from idea 2. I got really positive feedback on it as they were able to visualise not only what the problem is but also what a solution could look like. They did suggest though that I narrow down the scope of my idea, and maybe pick a brand or manufacturer to focus on. This could be IKEA or another manufacturer that is used often and uses paper assembly instructions. My tutor also previously worked on the design of paper instructions and he agreed that having to print multiple languages was an issue as it meant that the text size had to be really small to fit it all in. Going into this session I definitely had a preference toward this idea, but it was really helpful to get clarification and some feedback to help steer the direction of the idea.
