Spider Diagram

Since we are given full autonomy in final year for our major product, I wanted to come up with a good idea for a digital product that would fix a real world problem. I started off ideation by creating a spider diagram that showed different areas of life. This opened up my options and allowed me to think broadly before narrowing down. I wanted to do this to make sure that I wasn’t having tunnel vision but taking into account all areas of life.

Refining Ideas

I then looked into 3 areas in more detail. Here I was trying to find connections and also sub-areas, meaning that my project wouldn’t be too broad and try and solve a problem that is too big to be fixed with a digital product. I chose to look into 3 areas: Technology, Future planning, and Shopping. Here I was able to look deeper into each one and try and find problems and things that could be improved about these sub-areas.

Connections

I then started looking at different connections within the 3 areas that I looked at. I done this to see if there where any recurring topics or things that overlapped with each other This helped me get away from the broad categories and think into problems that can be combined. I was able to form 3 main connections, and noted down some ideas to do with each one. This was a helpful exercise and helped me understand the areas that I am planning to look into better.

Initial Ideas

Here are my initial ideas for my final year project that these exercises have helped me come up with. I am going to pick 3 of these which I think are the strongest to further explore.
