Once I knew what avenue I wanted to take my product down, it was time to have a think about what I specifically wanted the product to do. With the problem and the target user in mind, I started doing some ideation to get a better idea of what the potential digital solution will look like. With the research showing that most burglaries happen through doors and windows that are left open, the best measure to take is to ensure that all doors are locked and windows shut, even during the day.
In my opinion securing a home isn’t a matter of a digital solution, but instead taking the appropriate measures to decrease the chances of burglars seeing an opportunity to attack, and if they do attack to ensure that they can’t get in without using sheer force. Because of this, I think that a digital product that helps people secure their home by reminding them and giving them a checklist of measures to take each night is the way that people will remember to ensure that their house is physically secure. Here is what the app will focus on and the functionality of it.

I think that this product will be best used on a smart phone. This is because it means that the user doesn’t have to put on a pair of glasses or a headset to secure their home, but using their phone makes in more accessible and inclusive for a wider audience. Because of this, doing my sketches on a phone was a must from the get-go. Doing some quick sketches then some more refined ones helped me visualise what the interface could look like
