In the first class of the year we were told all we needed to know about our dissertation. The module is to help us consolidate our knowledge and understanding of design history and theory. We are really getting into the theory of design and focus less on designing something ourselves. I am excited for this as we haven’t done something like this since year 1. We will be writing 4000 words, which can sound quite daunting, but I am up for the challenge and looking forward to pushing myself.
Researching helps us expand and increase our knowledge and also allows us to try and discover something new. We don’t want to just write about something that we think is happening or interesting, but what the industry and other academics have written and have looked into. Research helps us use facts instead of our own opinion. We will learn in week 3 how to use the library and how to properly use citations and use referencing. Researching helps us look at areas of life and from there we can apply design thinking and how technology can impact that area.
We have been given a lot of freedom with ur dissertation, but we must ensure that it has something to do with digital design, UX, interaction design, or technology in general. It is good to have freedom within boundaries as it will allow us to explore different areas but also remain focused on what we have learnt over the last 3 years and use it for something useful.
