The master apprentice scheme of work has been around for a very long time and is most famous for it’s impact during the Renaissance. This was when a skilled and established artist would have some young boys who’s job was to simply copy what they were doing until they were good enough to start doing their own work. Although different, it has similarities to what apprentices do today where they shadow a more experienced worker until they have gained the skills so that they do the vocation on their own.

Throughout this module we will be using this technique to develop our skills in creating images that are functional and also look good. Our first task was to recreate some icons for a music app.

Recreating Icons

Here is the first set of icons that we were given. They all featured colour which I like and all had their own different difficulties that came with them. I tried to pick ones that weren’t similar to each other and also pick ones that looked challenging. I really enjoyed making these and think I done a good job.

Here is the next set of icons that I had to recreate from. These ones didn’t have any colour and also required a bit more playing about with to get them right. These ones took a little more time and effort as I had to play about with the vector in Figma a bit more and this is something that I had never used before but it was a good learning experience.

Recreating Music Screens

We were then given some screens to recreate and we had to pick one. This is the one that I chose to recreate. I recreated the screen on the right as I love how it looks with the gradient background, and the purple and white colour scheme with the icons and text. I found it quite challenging to get everything in the right place, and also found it challenging to make the icons, although I am very pleased with how it turned out and think that I done a good job. I started by making a low-fi screen first to get the layout and structure of the screen, then moved onto my final piece after.

Infographic

The next master apprentice recreation that we had to make was for a pie chart. This was to help prepare us for our next project which is creating a dashboard, and it will include infographics such as pie charts. This task was fun as I had never made a pie chart in Figma before, so this was a new skill that I was learning. I tried my best to get as close to the original and think that I done quite a good job.
