This was the first time that this module was running so I was looking forward to what we got up to, as there was a big focus on emerging technology and learning new skills. module was very different to 303 as it was less lecture based and theory, with more focus on individual thinking and creativity. In the lectures we had we looked at design from a different angle and thought about more ethically and skeptically. It was good to challenge our opinion on the purpose of design, and how we need to ensure that we are designing for the good of the user. We looked into dark patterns and narrative story-telling in design which helped me understand the deep thinking behind design that can either be used for good or bad.

My favourite lecture from this module was the lecture on AI in week 2. This was one that I was looking forward to and how it affects us as UX designers. I was blown away by some of the things that AI can achieve, especially looking into deep fakes which I had heard of before but I never knew how realistic they are and what you can look out for to catch one. It was also good to hear that AI probably won’t be taking our jobs any time soon, as right now it doesn’t have the ability to create anything, it just takes information from sources already on the internet. This shows that designers are still needed for their creativity, but we were told that the designers that will benefit the most from AI are the ones that are able to use it and incorporate it into their work flow.

I also really enjoyed the project for this module, we were given a lot of freedom to decide what device and user we wanted to design for, based on the research and discovery we conducted. With the only instruction being a smart-home product, we were able to look into different areas of home life and how technology can make it more streamline and increase user experience. I am very pleased with how my product came out, with the working Figma prototype being the final outcome.
