This project was to write and design a tender for a mock project, which was to create digital touch points and a brand identity for the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.
Since the Titanic Quarter is an area that I know quite well I didn’t have to actually go and visit it but with the knowledge that I already had on the place I felt that I was confident enough to come up with an idea for a mock tender. I have always found the Titanic quite interesting and would love for there to be a way for visitors to not just learn about the Titanic, but to actually have a glimpse of what it was actually like to be on the Titanic.
For the digital touch points, I decided with the idea of creating a virtual reality experience around the Titanic Quarter, where people could watch screens of different people that were involved in the Titanic, along with VR headsets that put you on the Titanic, doing different activities. Visitors could put on a VR headset and experience what it was like having a first class meal on the titanic, dancing in the ballroom, or even working in the engines or being in the captions deck. This is definitely possible with the advancements of technology and the power of VR. The brand identity would support this mix of new and old with its designs.
Writing the tender was something that I found quite tedious as there was a lot of thought that needed to go into each page of the tender, and making sure to include every important detail to ensure that I was protected legally. I was also finding it hard to fully visualise the idea in my head of what the project would look like, so this also made it harder to put into words what the project would include. I also found it difficult to use professional language and tone of voice, as this isn’t the way that I would normally speak. Once I got all the pages written out I was able to move onto designing the tender to make it look good.
The style and layout of the tender is the same as my CV, as I want to have a brand identity that I can apply to all of my documents. Since I already had a good idea of what the tender would look like, I was able to implement my style into it pretty easily. The information was all there so I just needed to give it some life and I done this by using the Area typeface that I used in my CV along with using floating offset headings. Here is my final tender in PDF format:
Overall I thought that this project wasn’t the most enjoyable as there was a lot of vagueness since it isn’t a real project and we won’t be actually designing it. I also thought that as someone who isn’t that interested in freelance that this isn’t something that I can see myself using that often but I guess it was good to learn how to make a tender if I ever need one.
