Today we learnt about how we would go about creating a landing page, and how we can use it to showcase our brand. We also learnt how to create and register a domain, so one of the things that we had to do was to search to see if we could create a domain for our banking brand that is available. We also looked at how for our portfolios we will need to know how set up a website and publish it, so it was good to know the process of how to do this.

Landing Page

A landing page is one of the biggest forms of communication for the brand to get their message across to the customer. A landing page is basically where all of the brand is put on one screen. It is important that landing pages serve this purpose, whereas the app itself is to me more functional. There are some things to consider when designing landing pages such as imaging, text, data and the order in what all these things come in. It is important to remember the unique selling point, and refer to it on the landing page. Here is Ulster Bank’s landing page, and I love how they use minimum text and lots of imagery to showcase what the brand is all about.

What to Include

We then done a exercise which was to help us decide what we ultimately need on our landing pages. We had to write down on sticky notes all the things that we thought were needed on a landing page. After that we drew out a bulls eye on a piece of paper, then placed the sticky notes in one of the three categories, with the middle one being what comes up first, then as the user scrolls down they will see what was. put in the middle and outer ring. This was a helpful exercise to find out what we needed to include on our landing page, and what order we put this information in. From what I found the first things that I wan’t the user to see is my strapline and my unique selling point, which is accessibility. Then as the user scrolls down they will be able to see these things play out as I show app features, core values, call to actions, and other aspects of the brands design.

Personal Branding

As designers, we will always need to have a personal brand in which we can showcase our work in portfolios, create CV’s, and overall just showcase our identity to employers and design companies. Things to consider are a logo, wordmark, typeface, tone of voice, values etc. It is very valuable to consider for second year when we be looking for placement. What we have learned and applied in our banking brand, we can re-apply to ourselves when creating our own personal brand.
