Today in class we had a group critique of our type specimen screens that we have been creating for the past few weeks. Kyle done a detailed critique of our screens and then the class were able to add comments on our work as well. Here are my three screens that I have been designing.
Here is my chosen screen out of the three, before the group critique. I chose this one because I love the purple colours, and also how I have used squares and rectangles to give the design a uniformed look yet it still looks a bit random. I also think it covers what a typeface specimen should do, with the alphabet, a sentence about the typeface, and other elements such as the date it was created and who designed it.
After my critique from Kyle and the class I made some changes. But first some things that people thought were good was how the squares made my screen look uniformed but also un-uniformed at the same time, which is something that I am quite proud of. Some changes that I made was getting rid of the backwards helvetica, aligning the squares using a ruler, and overall making it more aligned throughout the whole design. Here are my two screens side-by-side:

What I changed
I enjoyed the critique as I was able to get feedback from my class mates as well as feedback from a professional so it was really beneficial. I learnt that it is important to be able to present clearly why I made certain design choices and that I should have a reason for every design choice that I make.
