Olympic Games Design Systems

From week 4-7 we had to choose a design related topic and do a group presentation on it. In my group I had Jenna, Magdalena and Erin, and our topic was design systems for the Olympic games. Using Google Slides we had to create a presentation that was 10 minutes long, each speaking for about 2 minutes each. Since our topic was Olympics design systems, we each chose a year to focus on, and mine was the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics and their design system.

My Slides

I had 7 slides to present, which was quite a lot, but I felt like I needed this many. I also tried to keep the slides simple, with just some text and images to show the audience better what I was talking about. These were my slides:

  1. The Olympics - I briefly explained what the Olympics were. I didn’t spend too much time on this slide as most people already know what the Olympics are.
  2. The Olympic Rings - I looked at some of the changes that have happened to the famous Olympic rings and how they have progressed since they first were created in 1913.
  3. What is a Design System? - I explained what a design system was, giving examples of some of the elements of it.
  4. Paris 2024 - I introduced how the 2024 Olympics are being held in Paris and how they are bringing out a new design system.
  5. Emblem and Colour Scheme - I showcased the emblem and colour scheme, and gave my opinions on it, and some of the backlash it received.
  6. Typeface, Iconography and Graphic Identity - I then showcased the typeface, iconography and graphic identity, and how they have changed compared to previous years.
  7. Paris 2024 Website - I then pulled up a screenshot from the official Paris 2024 website, showing and talking about some of the elements of the design system that I spotted.

I started by doing some research about each of these areas, then put them on all the slides. For the slide design Jenna created a brilliant design using the colours of the Olympic rings to create a margin and header area for the titles. She also added the Olympic rings on each of the slides. I think it looks very clean and matches the theme of the Presentation. Here is what it looked like:

I overall enjoyed doing the presentation, and got positive feedback from Kyle. I also enjoyed the creating the presentation, as there was plenty of resources and material online, so it was easy enough to gather information. If I was to do it again I would try to speak a bit louder as I naturally have a quiet voice so I would try and speak a bit louder so that people in the back could hear me clearly.
