The then moved onto trying to come up with a word mark and logo for my brand. This is a key part of the brand so it is important that I get it right. It needs to be able to communicate across what my app does and display some of my brand identity.

Coming Up With a Name

I started by writing down words and synonyms that are associated with my app idea. This was to get my brain thinking of some of the different aspects of the brand, and let me see what words would work well as a wordmark. From there I had the idea of using a different language, as this would spice it up while still having the foundational meaning behind it. I liked how some words came out in Latin, and picked out the 4 best ones. These were: Nota, Tabula, Memento, and Memoria. Out of these 4 I decided to go with Nota as it represents the sticky notes aspect of the app, and has only 2 syllables so it is quick and easy to say.

Wordmark & Logo Ideation

Once I got the name of my brand sorted, it was then onto thinking about how it could look and be displayed. I immediately knew that I wanted to represent the brand logo as a sticky note, as this would be a great way to communicate what the app does, instead of just a generic wordmark. For the typeface I wanted to stay away from just using a simple san-serif font but instead use some sort of handwriting font that shows the brand identity of jotting something down quickly on a sticky note. I think it is quite a cool idea of having the logo and wordmark exactly what the app does, and I am excited to see how it develops once I move from paper to computer.

Digital Development

I then moved onto the digital development of the logo and wordmark. From the sketches I had a rough idea of what I was going for, but wanted to add some colour and detail to see if it would work or not. The logo is super simple, as it is simply just sticky notes and marker text. I wanted the make sure that the logo communicated across what the app does, so I thought that making the logo what the app does helps get the brand identity across. Using a marker typeface also helps show the act of quickly writing on a sticky note, so I wanted to stay away from using simple sans-serif typefaces and go for something more personal. With different iterations I was able to compile together one that I thought worked well. Overall I really like how the logo and wordmark turned out and think that it conveys the message of the brand across.
